Home made scented play dough for baby’s and children

Being at home in Birmingham with the children during lockdown has given me the chance to look into home made sensory play. I used to love getting creative with my children when they were baby’s and toddlers. Learning through play is so much fun So let me share my home made play dough win with you.
The play dough ran out at the weekend and luckily I had these ingredients in the cupboard to make our own. So please read on for my successful recipe and making this fun activity into a lockdown memory.
Hand and Foot impressions at home
Blossom Keepsakes 3D castings and Hand & foot Impression appointments aren’t currently happening. So a nice idea would be to use the play dough to take an impression of your baby’s hand and foot, to capture those little details before they grow. https://blossomkeepsakes.co.uk/raised-impressions/ Please visit my pages for inspiration. https://www.facebook.com/blossomkeepsakes/ https://www.instagram.com/blossom_keepsakes/
These are the ingredients you’ll need for the best play dough:
. 2 cups of plain flour. (I bought cheap American cup measurers online)
. 2 Tablespoons of vegetable oil (any will do)
. 2 Tablespoons of cream of tartar (you’ll find this in the flour or baking isle at the supermarket)
. 1/2 cup of table salt
. Essential oil (I used orange and I am going to try lavender next)
I would advise not to use the oil if you are making for a baby or young child that may eat the play dough or has sensitive skin!
. Food colouring
. 1 cup of boiling water
Now you know the ingredients find out how to………
Let’s make easy and quick home made play dough:
1. Dissolve the salt in the boiling water
2. Mix the flour, oil and cream of tartar in a separate bowl
3. Pour in the salty water and mix
4. Add the essential oil if using between 5-10 drops
5. Mix well and add more flour or water if the consistency isn’t quite right, I had to add more flour. knead it together on the kitchen surface.
6. I split my dough into three to make three different colours. Now make a small dip in the middle of the playdough and add the food colouring, keep kneading and adding more colour until you get what you are after.
7. Store in an air tight container for up to three months. if it gets a bit dry during play then just add a few drops of water.
Have fun x
